What is Chlamydia: Symptoms and Diagnosed and Treatment and Prevention

How are people infected with chlamydia?

Chlamydia can be transmitted sexually through oral, vaginal or anal intercourse, which is the most common route of infection. In addition, chlamydia can be transmitted from mother to baby during normal labor, and that is how the baby can have chlamydial infection of the throat, eyes, and lungs.

Even though anyone can be infected with chlamydia, it was noticed that the following groups are at a higher risk of getting infected:

  • People living in low social and economic conditions.
  • People with another sexually transmitted disease.
  • People with weak immune systems including those receiving steroids, chemotherapy, those living with HIV, and people with autoimmune conditions.
  • People who practice unsafe sex without a barrier.
