In general, the more active you are before the operation, the less likely you are to develop complications. But what can you do afterward? It is important to avoid activities that require heavy lifting or strenuous exercise, especially if they involve your legs. You don’t want to put them on a high load closely after surgery.

Your surgeon will tell you how much weight you can lift after the surgery. In most cases, progressive strength training will be recommended, but do not be too eager to increase the weights. Talk to your physical therapist first.
